May Month of Money returns Friday at Big Diamond, $5,000 to win Modified feature plus Wingless Sportsman

This Friday night, the May Month of Money continues at Big Diamond Speedway as the Quandel Concrete Modifies race 25-laps for a $5,000 payday. Friday will also see the debut of the Wingless Sportsman along with USS Achey Inc 602 Crate Sportsman and the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman.

It was two weeks ago that Jeff Strunk won the initial May Month of Money feature event. With the Quandel Concrete Modifieds not being on the schedule last on Friday, May 10th which was cancelled due to rain, this Friday, May 17th marks the return of the 358 modifieds to the Schuylkill County dirt oval. 2020 Modified champion Mike Gular is currently the leader in the chase for the 2024 title over Louden Reimert, Ryan Watt, Logan Watt and Eddie Strada. Along with Strunk, Ryan Watt and Anthony Perrego have recorded feature wins so far this season. The top two drivers in career wins at Big Diamond, Craig Von Dohren and Duane Howard have not had things go their way so far in 2024 with both looking to get their seasons back on track come Friday night.

Friday night will also see the 2024 Big Diamond debut of the Wingless Sportsman who put on a great show for the fans last season. The Wingless Sportsman are very much like a regular sprint car except they are based on a 2” x 4” boxed tubing frame, other than that they use basically the same parts and pieces and are self-starting race cars. The Wingless Sportsman are based out of Path Valley Speedway where they run every other week. Running a big track like Big Diamond is much different than racing at the ¼ mile bullring that is Path Valley but the drivers look forward to the challenge. Look for 2023 Big Diamond winner Cliff Brian Jr to be in the field looking to double up along with Luke Lenker, Bill Brian, Steve Wilbur, the Perigo’s and many more as they make their first visit of the season to Coal Country.

After two races so far in 2024 in the USS Achey Inc 602 Crate Sportsman division, it has been all Jax Yohn who is two for two on the young season. Yohn dominated the first 602 Crate Sportsman feature of the year and pulled off a last lap pass two weeks ago for the win. Yohn leads the season-long standings over Nick Desantis, Kevin Olenick, Colin Cox and 2023 champion Jordan Henn. Friday night will be the third feature of the season for the USS Achey Inc 602 Crate Sportsman in their season long quest for the championship.

The Big Creek Concrete 602 Rookie Crate Sportsman will race double features this Friday night as they will make up their rained-out feature from opening night. Chase Gular was the winner of the only rookie feature run so far in 2024.

Pit gates will open Friday night at 5:00 PM with the Grandstand gate opening at 5:30 PM

Hot laps are scheduled for 7:15PM with racing to follow.

Pit passes are $35 for Big Diamond Speedway members. Non-member pit passes are $45.

General admission is $22, Senior Admission is $20, Kids under 16 are free.
