URC Sprint Cars take on Big Diamond Speedway this coming Friday, April 25

This coming Friday evening, April 25, Big Diamond Speedway will play host to one of the most time-honored Sprint Car racing groups in the country as the United Racing Club (URC) rolls into the 3/8-mile dirt oval as part of a four-division program that includes the Quandel Concrete 358 Modifieds, Red White and Blue Auto Inc., Roadrunners and the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sporstman. The USS Achey 602 Crate Sportsman have the night off.

URC traces its roots back to 1948 although they did not compete at Big Diamond until May of 1975 when legendary Gary Gollub won the first race held here with the organization. That was also the first time Sprint Cars raced at the track and over the next 50 years URC has made periodic visits to the Schuylkill County dirt oval. Friday will mark their 38th appearance at the speedway.

Three-time URC champion Josh Weller leads all drivers with four victories at Big Diamond and will be looking to add to that total for the first time since 2023. Last year Tyler Ross scored the win.

The 358 Modifieds are coming off two big events starting with the Season Opener Thaw Brawl won by Mike Gular and last week’s history making Fritz Roehrig Memorial Money in the Mountains 50-lap feature where Louden Reimert collected a record payout of $20,000.

Heading into Friday’s action Mike Gular remains the point leader over Ryan Krachun with Duane Howard and Ryan Godown tied for third.

The Roadrunners recently held an exciting Full Fender Frenzy event, with cars from BAPS Motor Speedway and Selinsgrove Speedway racing against Big Diamond regulars. Kody Sites returned to his old stomping grounds and won the $1000 prize, achieving his 28th career victory at Big Diamond.

With the race awarding show-up points it enabled TJ Fitzpatrick to remain as current points leader.

Rounding out the night of racing will be the Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman and there’s no doubt last Friday’s feature will be hard act to follow after the oh-so-close win by Hunter Bowers over Reice Widger. It will be another 15-lap main event for the apprentices who are clearly showing that they too can put on a great race just as good as the veterans.

Pit gates will open at 5:00 pm and grandstands at 5:30 pm. Hot laps will begin at 7:15 followed by heats. Pit admission is $35 for Big Diamond Speedway members and $45 for all non-members. Adult general admission is $25, students 10-15 are $10 and kids under 9 are free. Active military with ID is free.
