Big Diamond Speedway is ready to roll into the final month of racing with the 9th Annual “Dave Kamp Memorial” this coming Friday evening, August 1, as part of Quandel Concrete Night.
On the docket will be 358 Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman, Roadrunners plus the PASS 305 Sprint Cars.
As an added attraction, Kids Big Wheel Races will be held during intermission and sponsored by Jones Geological Services of Spring Grove.
The Dave Kamp Memorial is a race held annually at Big Diamond Raceway. Dave, who was a Street Stock driver, passed away suddenly of unexpected medical complications just shy of his 40th birthday. He was well known and liked by all he knew him and over the past eight years the speedway has held a race night in his honor which has become a big part of the yearly schedule.
Along with the great racing set to take please, Kid Big Wheel Races will be held also.
Thanks to the support of Jeri Jones, who is the proprietor of Jones Geological Services, the younger set will get the chance to hit the track with on their Big Wheels.
There will be three age groups of competition, beginning with 3-4 then 5-6 and 7-8. Also, some amazing trophies will be awarded that undoubtedly will have these youngsters beaming with delight and coming away with great memories.
The PA Sprint Series (PASS) was established in 1998 by Tom Worrick, Gerry Rinehart, Todd Lynn and Gordy Lynn. Pass started at Hesston and Path Valley Speedways where these founders adopted RaceSaver® rules established by French Grimes and the Virginia Sprint Series.
PASS and RaceSaver continued to grow throughout the country with regions in Texas, New Jersey and New York as other areas adopted the consistent rules and affordable structure of RaceSaver® Sprint Car racing.
At Big Diamond, Pass has raced here three of the past four years with Kevin Nagy winning the first event in 2021, then Zach Rhoades scoring the victory in 2023 while last year Kruz Kepner snagged the checkers.
As is the case with all track marketing partners, Big Diamond Speedway is proud to have Quandel Concrete as the title sponsor of the headline 358 Modifieds and Friday’s races are being presented by the longstanding company.
Located at N 5th St & Schaeffers Hill Road in Minersville, the company can trace its roots back to 1882 and Johann Heinrich Quandel, who started a home building business in Minersville, PA. Now, four generations later, and situated at the site of the original lime kilns, Quandel Concrete continues in the traditions and ethics set down by J.H. Quandel over 100 years ago.
Quandel Concrete has remained steadfast in their support to the track as well as several race teams.
After a rainstorm put an end to last Friday’s action, fans and race teams will no doubt be eager to get in the racing this Friday, especially with this being the final month of the season.
As a reminder to all those in attendance last week, spectators and competitors will you have the next two weeks to use your wristband for re-entry at face value.
Friday’s pit gates open at 5:00 pm and grandstands at 5:30. Hot laps start at 7:15 followed by qualifying heats. Adult general admission is $25, kids under 16 are free. Pits are $35 for members and $45 for non-members.
