“Double B” Bob Bowers Memorial on tap this Friday at Big Diamond Speedway. Roadrunners racing in twin-12 lap features with extra $$$ on the line; 358 Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman and Rookie Sportsman also on race card

Big Diamond Speedway returns to action this coming Friday evening, June 27, with a special night for the Red White and Blue Autos Inc., Roadrunners all in the memory of a very special man, Bob Bowers.

The “Double B” Bob Bowers Memorial is being held in honor of the late area businessman and Big Diamond Speedway Late Model racer and lifelong fan of the 3/8-mile dirt oval.

Joining the Roadrunners will be the Quandel Concrete 358 Modifieds, USS Achey Inc., 602 Crate Sportsman and the Big Creek Concrete Rooke 602 Cate Sportsman.

This marks the second year of running the “Double B” Bob Bowers Memorial which is slated to be contested in a pair of 12-lap features paying $500 to win each. But, through the generosity of the Bowers family and several local businesses, the pot has been nicely sweetened.

$500 has been added to the purse from the Bowers family along with $200 each from Dave Williams, Quandel Concrete, Frank DiMarco Autobody, Mattera Construction and B & H Landscaping. With that additional income each 12-lap feature is now awarding $1250-to-win.

In last year’s running of the “Double B” Bob Bowers Memorial Mike Reichert and Jarod Bassininsky won the respective features and each time beating out Alex Schofstall.

Heading into Friday’s action, Kris Ney leads the Roadrunner point standings, just slightly ahead of Chuck Fayash by only nine. That could easily change too as each of the 12-lappers will carry championship points.

The 358 Mods, 602 Crate Sportsman and Rooke Sportsman classes will each be running heats and regular distance features.

Friday’s pit gates open at 5:00 pm and grandstands at 5:30. Hot laps start at 7:15 followed by qualifying heats. Adult general admission is $20, and kids under 16 are free. Pits are $35 for members and $45 for non-members.

Coming up on Friday, July 4, is the annual Georgie Stevens Memorial on B & H Landscaping Night. The 358 Modifieds will be running twin-20 lap features and will be joined by the 602 Crate Sportsman and for the second time this season the Roadrunner Full Fender Frenzy with $1000-to-win up for grabs.
