This Friday, June 21st at Big Diamond Speedway, the USS Achey, Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman will take center stage with the running of the 602 Crate Classic paying $3,000 to the winner of the 30-lap feature race. The Quandel Concrete 358 Modifieds will also be in action displaying their driving abilities along with the door-to-door action of the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunners.
All this great racing action will take place on the first ever “Lasting Legends Night” as the Big Diamond stars of the past get together to sign autographs and swap stories with the fans about their lasting memories or racing at Big Diamond Speedway. This is sure to be a hit with the fans who have witnessed many of these drivers win throughout the years in coal country.
Past drivers who have confirmed that they will be in attendance will be “Mr. Excitement” Kenny Brightbill, Jack Follweiler, Scott Haus, Paul Koch, Keith Prutzman, Billy Schinkel, Dave Schoffstall, and Dennis Bailey. It will be a night to remember for the fans and competitors alike. Free autograph cards will be given out while supply lasts.
The USS Achey, Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman will be racing for 30 laps as part of the 602 Crate Classis which will pay $3,000 to the winner. The 602 Crate Sportsman division has been as competitive as ever in 2024 with Jax Yohn being the only driver to register multiple wins (2). Other winners in 2024 include Joe Toth, Mike Schneck, Colin Cox, Matt Martino and Xavier Sprague. The last four features have been won by first time ever Big Diamond winners in Schneck, Cox, Martino and Sprague, can that trend continue? With the extra money being posted for this race, you can expect some outsiders to make their way to the Schuylkill Valley dirt oval looking to try and steal it away from the track regulars. For this night only, the sportsman will run timed hot laps to set the running order for the heats.
Last week saw Kevin Beach Jr pull the upset in the Quandel Concrete 358 Modified feature to record his second career modified win over Ryan Watt. Logan Watt is the current leader in the race for the Quandel Concrete modified championship and will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 10th place finish last Friday. It wasn’t a good week for the Big Diamond hot shoes last week with Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Mike Gular and Brett Kressley all involved in accidents that ended the night for all except Kressley. It is a good bet they will be back looking to rectify that situation this Friday night. The top five in points after Friday June 14th are Logan Watt, Brett Kressley, Ryan Watt, Eddie Strada and Louden Reimert.
Completing the night’s action will be the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunners. This division never disappoints as they race hard each week with door-to-door action. The Roadrunners on most nights are the most exciting division to watch, which is why they bring out the best in the fans. Andrew Fayash III is the leader in the points chase over his uncle Chuck Fayash followed by Kris Ney, Alex Schoffstall and Mike Reichert.
Pit gates will open Friday night at 5:00 PM with the Grandstand gates opening at 5:30 PM
Hot laps are scheduled for 7:15PM with racing to follow.
Pit passes are $35 for Big Diamond Speedway members. Non-member pit passes are $45.
General admission is $25, Kids under 16 are free.
