The penultimate night of action of the 2024 Big Diamond Speedway season is in the books with the running of the Dave Kamp Memorial races. Louden Reimert was victorious in the $4,000 to win Quandel Concrete Modified feature for his third win of the season. Also, getting his third win of the season was Xavier Sprague in the Uss Achey, Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman feature with the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunner feature going to Alex Schoffstall. The Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate feature went to Trevor Bixler notching his first ever win.
Friday night was also Championship Night at Big Diamond with Brett Kressley going back-to-back in winning the Quandel Concrete Modified title. Also going back-to-back was Jordan Henn who was crowned the champion of the Uss Achey, Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman division. Winning his third career Red White and Blue Autos title was Andrew Fayash III.
Heath Metzger and Wayne Witmer led the 24-car field to the green flag in the Quandel Concrete Modified 25 lap feature with Witmer outgunning Metzger for the top spot to lead lap one. Lap three saw third place starting Ron Haring Jr slow in turn four to bring the first yellow of the night. The restart saw Witmer back out front with Aleia Geisler now in second with Duane Howard and Louden Reimert having good restarts to settle into fourth and fifth. Lap four saw starter Warren Alston bring out the red flag as Bobby Trapper rolled over coming out of turn four. Trapper exited the car on his own power and was okay.
When the racing resumed Witmer continued to lead the field over Geisler as Reimert made a move to get past Scott Albert and Howard. Alberts good race came to an end as he suffered a left rear flat tire causing him to slow with Logan Watt getting into the back of the 10$ causing Albert to spin. Witmer brought the field to the green, but it was Geisler who got her No. 44 wound up on the outside and powered by Witmer for the lead. Witmer continued to slow and fall back now putting Reimert and Howard into second and third.
Geisler was running a great race hitting her marks with Reimert lurking about a car length behind. Reimert stuck the nose of the No. 16 under Geisler a couple of times but just could not get the driver off to take the lead. As the front running duo approached the tail end of the field, this was the break Reimert was looking for as Geisler slipped up going into turn one allowing Reimert to dig down low and get alongside the leader. Reimert was able to get by and now was the leader as the field scored lap 22. Reimert would stretch his lead over the remaining three laps to win his third Quandel Concrete Modified feature of the year with Geisler matching her best finish of the year in second place. Logan Watt nosed out Howard for third place, Howard settled for fourth place with 2024 Quandel Concrete Modified points champion Brett Kressley in fifth.
“It’s big race season here, you can be good all year and not be good come big race time and to get a win before rolling into all that makes you feel pretty good,” said the victorious Reimert. “I just had to stay patient, we were both running the bottom, and I just tried to hit my marks and wait for a slipup in front of me. We got to lapped traffic where things kind of got shaken up a little bit and a slipup happened, and we were able to capitalize. We had a solid year and there’s nothing to complain about.”
For Brett Kressley, it was his second year in a row winning the Quandel Concrete Modified championship.
“It’s not easy for sure, it’s tough when they invert the field with the points handicapping,” said Kressley with track announcer Barry Angstadt after the race. “When you are the points leader coming from the back every week, it makes it a little bit tough but for the most part we’ve had a good track all year to race on and be able to pass and that’s why we are here.”
Wes Brady and Tim Borror would lead the field to the final Uss Achey, Inc points race of 2024 with Brady charging to the lead. A multi-car tangle on the backstretch brought the red flag with only one lap scored. All drivers were okay. Brady led the field going into turn on, but it was Xavier Sprague getting a good run to steal away the top spot. A spin by Brandon Fritsch brought out another yellow on lap four. Sprague was the leader over Brady, Borror, Tyler Vidal and Jordan Henn. Sprague sprinted out to a safe lead on the restart with Brady, Borror and Henn all battling for second. Nick Desantis spun on lap eight to bring Sprague back to the pack. Sprague would again pull out to a 10-car advantage as Brady and Henn waged war for second, Henn was finally able to wrestle second away and now set his sights on Sprague. Colin Cox worked his way by Brady and was now in third but the front two had pulled away. Sprague would never let Henn get close to him and won his third Uss Achey, Inc 602 Crate Sportsman feature of the year. Jordan Henn finished second to clinch his second consecutive Uss Achey, Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman title. Colin Cox was third with Kevin Olenick and Wes Brady the top five.
Jim Kost would lead lap one of the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunner feature. CJ Ferguson brought out the first caution when he slowed in turn three before lap two could be scored. Chuck Fayash would take the lead on the restart with Kost and Alex Schoffstall right behind. Ferguson would once again bring out the caution for another flat tire on lap two. Leader Chuck Fayash slowed with a flat tire before another lap could be recorded putting Kost and Schoffstall on the front row for the restart. Schoffstall would take over the lead on the restart and immediately started to pull away from the rest of the field. With Schoffstall way out in front, the points battle would take center stage as Andrew Fayash III and Kris Ney battle each other not only for third and fourth but also for the 2024 title. Schoffstall dominated the race to win his fifth Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunner feature of the year. Jim Kost was second with 2024 Red White and Blue Roadrunner champion Andrew Fayash III in third. Kris Ney and Ryan Murphy rounded out the top five.
The final Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Sportsman feature of 2024 saw Trevor Bixler take the lead at the drop of the green flag and runaway with the 15-lap feature to win his first ever career main event over three-time winner Chase Gular, McKenzi Smith and Hunter Bowers.
